Billy Elliot
Jul. 29th, 2016 | 01:31 am
Just watched a local performance of Billy Elliot yesterday. The 13-y.o. playing Billy is Philipp Mergener, and he’s been doing ballet since he was four.
I love some of the additions the musical made (compared to the movie):
- The mum’s letter
- Grandma’s song
- Dream dance sequence with older Billy
[SPOILERS kinda]
- What his dad decided to do after he confronted the dance teacher and went “He’s my son. He’s my responsibility.”
“No one can give what I can give him.” *is slayed*
I don’t like musical!Michael as much as movie!Michael. Also, nothing can beat movie!Billy’s angry dance. The musical angry dance feels contrived and therefore doesn’t have as much impact…
This local performance doesn’t employ enough pauses to build anticipation. But I guess they already clock at 2 hrs 30 minutes and didn’t want to make it longer?
In closing, Elliott Hanna performing “Electricity” in Billy Elliott the Musical Live.
Ickle!Tom Holland* and two other Billys performing “Electricity” together.
* Tom Holland was one of the West End Billy Elliots from September 2008 to May 2010. He trained for 2.5 years before taking on the role.
#aw geez I love Billy's dad so much #Jackie Elliott

merlinreversebb fic

Has the titles for: the parts, the series, the Arthur prequel/backstory and Morgana prequel/backstory, but NO TITLE for the fic itself. *mopes* ETA: Title: GET!
[☆] 1 K
merlin_games fic due Feb 13

Nothing concrete yet. Bleh. ETA 02/13/12: Done in two days, huzzah! >=D
The two Michael Fassbender movies outside X-M:FC that I'm actually willing to watch:
1. Jane Eyre. First of all, why did they start the movie from the middle? I watched the movie 1.5 times and I still don't get it.
Second, I was rooting for St. John until he proposed, in which he amply demonstrated that he DOESN'T GET JANE AT ALL. =( I'm making disappointed faces at you,Jamie Bell St. John! Ergo, Jane ran back to be with the lesser of two evils creepyRochester instead =P
Michael Fasbbender's Rochester is, as expected, v. creeper (Perhaps to Twilight's creeperEdward levels? Why the same first name WAHHHhhh). What delightfully surprised me though, is he plays creeperRochester with humor. He MOCKS JANE GENTLY AND NOT-SO-GENTLY but it's all in good fun. Plus, Jane Eyre has wits and claws. Rawr.
Lastly, I approve of the ending shot (the two of us against the world! Willful blindness, metaphorical and otherwise!) and the exclusion of the book's epilogue, which is the epitome of foreboding creepy in a book already filled with creepy. I mean it all in the most romantic sense, of course.
2. A Bear Named Winnie
All the Michael Fassbender & bear/horse/animal moments are sweet, but he inevitably looks like a shark in some shots. What has been seen cannot be unseen.
It's an adequately sweet TV family movie, with bonus Stephen Fry, but IMO you can just enjoy this X-M:FC fic instead:

Erik Lehnsherr is the type of man who hates puppies, kittens, and babies. He's the type of man for whom peace is not an option. He's the type of man who would walk away from the only person who's truly loved him.
Isn't he?
Or, in which a bear named Winnie is the ultimate 'fix it'.

I've been listening to Boys' Love drama CDs on YouTube and telling myself that
May. 9th, 2011 | 10:19 pm
I'm practicing my Japanese listening comprehension.
Random things from Boys' Love land:
1. Yoo Ha Jin's Totally Captivated -- the first BL manhwa that I actually like. I'm meh about the art because manhwa art = manhwa art and manga art = manga art, but I LOVE the storyline and the shamelessness of Ewon Jung >=D
Am sick of the typical in-denial uke =P
1 a. Don't miss the TC doujinshi: Totally Spying on Them
2 a. Speaking of doujinshi by the original mangaka/manhwaka(?), read Antique Bakery doujinshi if you haven't! (scroll down)
Antique Bakery manga = shoujo publisher, but the doujinshi = yaoi all the wayyy~
Poor Ono and his eternal one-sided love T_T
I support Tachibana/adult!Deko =P
2 b. I finally watched Antique, the Korean movie adaptation of Antique Bakery. If viewed as a movie it's kinda spastic, but think of it as a two-hour fanvid of Antique Bakery and you will LOVE IT. You can't ask for Moar Ghei. For srs.
The actors' feel & heights = perfect for their parts. My only complaint would be Eiji not being obnoxious-yet-endearing enough. They don't look tall in the movie because three of them are ridiculously tall (models-turned-actors), but when they stand up next to an average Korean guy they are TALL.
3. This Sex Pistols AMV: Years of Lies (WARNING: bare chests, non-sexual hair-pulling, will cause viewer to obsessively check for OVA 2's arrival)
3a. Why do I always prefer the side pairing in Boys' Love?
Yonekuni x Shiro > Kunimasa x Norio
Junjou Egoist > Junjou Terrorist > Junjou Romantica
4. I vastly prefer the manga + drama CD combo over plain Boys' Love anime.
It feels less cheesy and less embarassing. Anime portrayal of penetration is...idk. It has improved a lot over the years but it's still not there for me. Junjou Romantica anime = ♥ because less is more =P

If only getting what Joey wanted was as easy as hitting D-4.

The annoying voice in his head which had lately been sounding a lot like Noah reminded him that he'd have to actually make a selection first.
1. Anyone up to beta-ing my Merlin ficlets? I need a quick lookover & suggestions for expansion/clarification for 500-word Vivian/Leon AND/OR 715-word of Merlin/magic book. Esp. the second one because I think my humor fails T_T
2. I was planning to leisurely rewrite/expand/condense my entries after
summerpornathon ends, but
camelotremix happens. Read the FAQ here.

3. Inception didn't feel like a sci-fi movie at all. However, if one goes by my arbitrary definition (fantasy = good vs. evil, sci-fi = underdog vs. big, bad corporation/govt./force), then yes, it's a sci-fi.
LOVED it. Love Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character as much as I expected to (LOLarious sleeping face = <333). Didn't like the Juno actress*' character as much as I hoped I would. Oh, Leo. Oh, oh, Leo.
* She's much more awesome in Hard Candy. Juno is just meh, really.

mood:
Uhura =/= Anhora
I have to admit that I only watched Star Trek because of:
1) Sylar with eyebrows! and,
2) I want to read
ifyouweremine's pr0n
Like a gazillion other people have said, it was GLORIOUS.
I like every single character in that movie, and that _never_ happened to me before.
Yes, including the evil Romulan guy, who I found vaguely hot (which is understandable because he was played by Eric Bana, who played Hector in Troy).
I even like Spock's mother (didn't recognize Winona Ryder until her third appearance X-D)
ruien shared ST canon tidbits with me, but I was all, "Uh-huh. Sylar with eyebrows! Spock Spock Spock!"
I should like BlondPratJerk!Kirk better, but I don't. It's the power ot the eyebrows!111
I want to cuddle ickle!Spock with his pretty eyes <333 Spock! Spock Spock Spock Spock Spock! Spock!
Ickle!Kirk was awesome too! And Kirk was as pretty as everyone said <333
Mind meld! Spock! Spock!
Kirk Senior was hot too! Alternate Reality! Spock!
I even love the canon het pairing =D =D =D
Hikaru Sulu! Gold power ranger! Fold-out sword! Fencing!
17 y.o. Chekhov OMGSoPrecious ^___^ "I can do it I can do it I can do it"
Eomer Karl Urban's stupid haircut makes me want to cry, but otherwise YAY Bones! Spock!
I'm going to watch it at IMAX later tonight =D =D =D
PSA: It's only playing in IMAX until this Thursday.
Bring on the fics where Kirk licks Spock's eyebrows MWAHAHAHAHA >=D
- Awesome mind-meld plotbunny
- Star Trek Reboot Drabble Challenge: Journey to Drabble -- 100 prompts =)
-
st_xi_kink's kink meme
Non-Star Trek related:
- movie ads in Canada run TEN MINUTES LONGER than movie ads in the U.S., which is already pretty darned long.
- Canadian males in ads all have the same closely-set-together-eyes and tall straight nose, just like American TV actors all have square jaws =P
